KANOWIT: The 1Malaysia Sarawak Advisory Council (1MSAC) has brought piping hot news to six longhouses in Sungai Ngemah here.

The longhouses are Rumah Nyalong Indet and Rumah Suzusie Lily Jenau at Nanga Baloh, Rumah Salang Unjie at Nanga Beletik, Rumah Igang Julong and Rumah Beginda Jalin at Nanga Selaut and Rumah Kalang Unchak at Nanga Belawit.

Ngemah assemblyman Alexander Vincent said the council under its iM Sarawak social development initiatives would replace old water pipes of the longhouses.

Speaking when visiting Rumah Kalang to announce the project, he said he felt happy for his constituents.

“As an ordinary assemblyman, my minor rural project (MRP) fund is not sufficient to cater for about 200 longhouses in the constituency.

“So with this project from the council headed by its chairman Datuk Joseph Salang, the longhouse residents involved would not have to wait long to have their old water pipes replaced,” he said on Thursday when accompanying two representatives from 1MSAC to the longhouses.

Like other projects under iM Sarawak, he said the project would be implemented on gotong-royong basis by the longhouse residents and the selected contractor.

He said the costs of the projects were lower than government projects which were tendered out and takes a shorter time to implement.

“For example to replace 30-years-old water pipes of Rumah Kalang, it may cost hundreds of thousands of ringgit and months to complete.

“But under this initiative, the cost is cheaper and the project can be completed faster,” he said.

He then advised the longhouse residents involved to settle disputes among themselves to avoid delay in the implementation of the project.

“It is for the benefit of all not just one person,” he said.

Later, Alexander went to SK Nanga Ngungun to present cheques of RM1,500 each to Parent-Teacher Associations of 18 schools in Ngemah state constituency from 1Malaysia People’s Foundation as well as books and soccer balls from One World Futbol.

Penghulu Ambrose Pengiran Sampai and SK Nanga Ngungun headmaster Bundong Nibong were among those present.
