Legal letter: Stop getting jittery, Jimmy told

KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah DAP chief Fred Fung has urged Sabah DAP chief Jimmy Wong to stop getting jittery over the initiative to serve him with a legal letter.

“So far, I have not received any legal letter and I am not going to sit at home and wait for it as if I will be beheaded if I don’t do so. Since he has engaged a lawyer, he should let his lawyer do the job instead of wasting time looking for my home address in the National Registration Department (NRD) and getting hopping mad over it. If it can’t be served on me, too bad,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Fred claimed Jimmy had contradicted himself by saying, “everyone knows where I stay and why the need to search for my address at the NRD if that is the case? How come the letter was not able to reach me, I don’t know … it is for him to figure out why or was it just his tactic to score political points … to tell the whole world that Fred is scared of Jimmy suing him and is hiding.”

However, Fred said it was unbecoming of Jimmy to reveal where he stays in the media.

“It’s an invasion of my privacy and he should know better and not cross the line. A phone call to me would suffice to locate where I am instead of running around to get my address,” he said, adding that his mother had just passed away recently and he had a lot of things to do such as prayers, among others.

“My beloved mother’s things are much more important that what Jimmy intends to do,” he said.

Fred said Jimmy had asked him to receive the letter “like a man” but warned him to be careful with what he says.

“This is a sexist remark and Jimmy should apologise to all women. Does he mean women are not brave enough or weak? What sort of narrow-minded thinking is that? The women leaders at DAP Central such as Teresa Kok and Chong Eng should also go after Jimmy for this inexcusable remark.

“I have asked many times whether he received RM180,000 political fund during the last election but he dare not reply me. But now, he is asking me to receive his legal letter ‘like a man’. The public would be the better judge.

“As for the legal letter he was supposed to serve on me and purportedly to ask me to explain my statements in the press about the election fund, whether I want to explain or not is my business. My lawyer will look into that when I receive the letter.

“It is just like the Wall Street Journal which did not bother to reply after receiving a legal letter from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s lawyer as their lawyers had deemed it unnecessary and is standing by its story,” said Fred.

“If I receive the legal letter and not going to reply after consulting my lawyer, it is up to Jimmy to take the next course of action. Why get so angry because a legal letter did not reach me? I just don’t understand,” he said.

Fred said Jimmy should stop dragging his party colleagues into the matter as it does not concern them.

“Stop the show of force by dragging innocent party leaders into it as it has absolutely nothing to do with them,” he said.

Fred said it was not a sin to ask Jimmy where is the RM180,000 election fund he received and witnessed by him.

“I never said Jimmy swallowed it. People ask me and I am just posing the question back to Jimmy to ask him to explain,” he said.

Jimmy has issued a lawyer’s letter to Fred for making baseless allegations in the media.

Last Thursday, Jimmy dared Fred to reply to the legal letter “like a man” after failing to deliver the letter personally to him while the mailed one did not receive any reply.

The Sabah DAP chairman claimed that the former Sabah DAP chief did not dare to receive the legal letter which was rejected when sent to his address.
