ENGKELILI: Constituents in Engkilili are advised to be receptive to development projects brought by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said they could not afford to be left behind by the wave of development as the government had lots of plans for them.

“All it takes for the people here is to cooperate with the government.

“They must be willing to cooperate with the government first then the development will take place,” he added.

He pointed out that the greatest issue the government faced was lack of land because some people were unwilling to give their land away for development.

This could hamper the government’s effort to bring development to the people, the majority of whom longed to see development brought to their area, he added.

Hence, he said, they should not entirely blame the government if development did not reach them.

“Electricity and water continue to be the issue for the people living in the rural areas.

“While some are complaining that the government had not brought them any development, they must understand other external factors as well such as land issues,” he said.

Regardless of the issues, he hoped Engkilili folks would work closely with him in order for development to reach them as soon as possible, saying it was his duty to serve them well.

Rayong was speaking during a leader-with-the-people event at Basi Ili (Rumah Tengak) here on Saturday.

During the event he pledged RM10,000 for the Basi Ili Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK).

Present were Lubok Antu District Council (MDLA) secretary Bilong Engkas and local community leaders.
