KUALA NERANG: Taking extra care of Umno members and depending on the weaknesses of the opponents will not ensure victory for Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) at the 14th general election (GE14), Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said.
Khairy, who is Youth and Sports Minister, said that Umno members should accept the fact that Umno and BN could only win the GE14 with the strong support from the people.
“Taking extra care of Umno members or depending on the weaknesses of the opposition parties is not enough for us to win. We have to go back to the people,” he told reporters after opening the Padang Terap Umno Youth and Puteri Umno delegates meeting here yesterday.
As such, he said party leadership should formulate a strategy to ensure that all party members and voters would give their mandate to Umno and BN to continue ruling the government.
He said Umno and BN would not be able to win the GE14 without the support from the people.
In Kuantan, Pahang Umno and BN chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob called on Umno members to reach out to the fence sitters to ensure that they would vote for Umno and BN in the GE14.
He said the votes from the fence sitters were also important for Umno to ensure victory at the next general election.
Adnan, who is Pahang Menteri Besar, said according to a survey, the fencesitters now made up 70 per cent of the voters compared to only 30 per cent during the previous general election.
“We want to depend on voters among Umno members, it will not be sufficient … so, Umno members must work harder to gain support from the fencesitters as they could help ensure victory for BN and Umno,” he told reporters after opening the Paya Besar Umno delegates meeting yesterday.
