MIRI: Narcotics police last Wednesday morning foiled a drug trafficking attempt with the arrest of a husband and wife in a house at Taman Permai, Permyjaya here and seizure of various types of drugs including 28 bottles of ‘Happy Waters’ worth around RM24,595.00.

Among the suspected drugs uncovered in the house were 19 strips of Erimin 5 (52g), five plastic packets of ketamin (361g), six packets of cannabis (70g) and ecstasy pills (2.69g).

It was disclosed by Miri acting police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit during a press conference at Miri Narcotics Office here yesterday that the 26-year-old wife is a China national while her husband, 47, is a local and they have a four-year-old son. Stanley added that the ‘Happy Waters’ suspected to be syabu in liquid form was sold for RM250 per bottle.

“We are now investigating the source of the drugs,” he said.

The suspects were rounded up during a raid around 11.30am, led by Inspector Vikram Sandra after a stakeout for several weeks.

During the arrest, police also seized a digital weighing scale and a 4WD vehicle worth about RM50,000.

“They have been remanded for seven days to facilitate police investigation on the case until August 20,” he added.

The suspects are detained at Miri Central Police Station (CPS).

It was believed that the seized drugs were for the local market.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

“Both suspects tested positive for drugs,” said Stanley.

“The case is also being investigated under Section 39A(2), 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the same act (Dangerous Drugs Act 1952),” he added.
