UMS student dies in Labuan accident

LABUAN: A University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) female student perished when the car she was driving collided with another vehicle at Jalan Bebuloh near Jalan Sg Pagar here on Tuesday.

Noor Haini Muda, 20, from Sahabat 16, Lahad Datu, Sabah, was in Labuan for the university’s ‘Alumni Pulang ke Ganggang’ programme with two UMS friends from Kg Sri Melor, Semporna and Kg Paal Seberang Tenom, Sabah.

Labuan police chief Supt Adzhar Othman said the trio were heading to the town centre from UMS Kampus Antarabangsa Labuan (UMSKAL) in a Perodua Viva when the incident happened at 3.45 pm.

He said one of the students suffered a broken leg while the other escaped with minor injuries.

Adzhar said the driver of the other vehicle identified as Imran Duron, 34, who was with his 32-year-old wife and two children, suffered head injuries.

“His three-year old daughter sustained a broken leg, while his wife and their other daughter aged seven escaped unharmed,” he added.

The injured victims were treated at Labuan Nucleus Hospital.-Bernama
