KUCHING: A young man who claimed trial to a statutory rape charge was denied bail in the Sessions Court yesterday.
The 20-year-old accused from Kampung Tanjung Bundong, Mohd Hamzah Saperi, appeared before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narissa Abang Ahmad who ordered him to be remanded in prison until the disposal of the case.
The court fixed Oct 28 for the case to be mentioned again.
The accused allegedly had sexual intercourse with an underage girlfriend who was then 15 years old at an unnumbered house at Kampung Tanjung Bundong in Kota Samarahan sometime in October 2012.
He told the court yesterday that logsthey had sex voluntarily.
He will be tried under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum 20 years’ jail and whipping on conviction.
