MIRI: The police on Wednesday evening arrested a 41 year-old lecturer for allegedly raping a 22-year-old kindergarten teacher at his house in Senadin on July 16.

Acting police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, confirmed the arrest when contacted yesterday.

He said the lecturer was apprehended by detectives from the central police station around 5.10pm Wednesday.

“The suspect is being detained at the police station to facilitate investigation and the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code,” said Stanley.

According to the police, the suspect invited the woman to go out for a dinner and fetched her from her family’s house.

The suspect however told her that he had not taken a shower yet and hence had to go home first before going out for dinner.

Initially, the victim was reluctant to follow, but she alleged that she was forced to go to his house and then to the bedroom where the alleged rape took place.

The suspect sent her home after the alleged incident, and she lodged the police report on Tuesday.

The suspect has been remanded for three days to facilitate investigation
