SIBU: Kegler Toh Tong Hui has become the pride of the nation, bringing home a silver and a gold from the prestigious Special Olympics World Summer Games held in Los Angeles recently.

Toh said at his house yesterday t hat he was making his international debut in bowling.

“Before, I only played at state meets, and at most, national level. I am extremely happy with my achievement. My profound gratitude to all who were involved in helping me to get to that international event,” he said.

Malaysia Special Olympics Council’s special officer Joseph Wong accompanied Toh and others to the event held in Los Angeles.

Toh’s mother, Pa Suok Eng, was visibly disappointed that her son did not win the individual gold.

She said: “He lost by only five points only to Ronald Morales, a player from Venezuela. Anyway, to me my son is still the best.”

A total of 6,500 Special Olympics athletes from 165 countries took part in the Games, of whom 221 from 55 countries entered for the bowling competition.
