PAPAR: Five family members were killed while a two-year-old boy is fighting for his life at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) after they were involved in a road accident along Km 40, Kimanis/Keningau Road on Friday.

The victims were identified as Nur Fitriati Binti Sukarno, 28, Supiati Binti Mohd Salleh, 53, Triana Nur Khasanah Binti Sukarno, 34, Eka Sudarmono B.

Sukarno, 37, and Dwi Rahmahyanti Binti Sukarno, 35, were killed instantly after the Isuzu four-wheel-drive vehicle they were travelling in skidded on the road and overturned in the 5pm incident on August 21.

Two-year-old Muhammad Hamizan B Mohd Khaidir survived the incident and is being treated at the intensive care unit of QEH.

District police chief DSP George Abdul Rakman said initial police investigation believed the family members were heading to Kimanis from Tawau when Nur Fitriati, who was driving , lost control of the vehicle which then skidded and overturned a couple of times before it landed on its side.

“Five people, including the driver, died at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.

“A two-year-old boy who was travelling with them however survived and has been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that police were still monitoring the boy’s condition.

George said the victims’ bodies were taken to hospital for post-mortems and their next of kin had been notified.

He also urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist police in their investigation under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
