SHAH ALAM: Undergraduates are advised by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh not to be involved in the Bersih 4.0 gatherings planned by the organisers for this weekend.

Idris said besides contravening the law, their participation in the Bersih gatherings would also smear the reputation of their higher learning institutions.

“Don’t need (to participate)…this will not only inconvenience the public, but the traders too.

“Don’t listen to the allegations that our general elections are not clean.

“Actually, our elections never happened that way….and there had been Bersih (protest gatherings) before,” he said after his visit to the Karangkraf Media Group’s complex here yesterday.

Idris was earlier asked by reporters on the Bersih 4.0 gatherings planned to be held at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching in Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah this Saturday and Sunday.

He also said that students found involved in the gatherings could face action under the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 or under tbe country’s other existing laws.

Police have already advised the public not to take part in the Bersih 4.0 gatherings as they are deemed illegal for having not met the notice condition in the Peaceful Assembly Act 2013. — Bernama
