KUCHING: The public are advised not to worry or assume that problems could arise for Haj pilgrims in the Holy Land following the drop in value of the ringgit.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said handling of all Haj matters by Tabung Haji (TH) had been smooth.

He said TH personnel would always be in the Holy Land throughout the Haj season to look after the needs of the pilgrims there, including providing money withdrawal and safekeeping services.

“Their accommodation, food and drinks are all handled by Tabung Haji. They don’t have to buy food themselves.”

Jamil Khir said this at a news conference after handing out certificates and diplomas at the Institut Kemahiran Islam Malaysia Sarawak (Ikmas) convocation ceremony in Dewan Kenyalang Ikmas, here yesterday.

He said currently, the government gave a subsidy of RM7,290, so the pilgrims needed to pay only RM9,980 each to perform the Haj with TH.

From the records, the Haj subsidy was RM6,175 last year and RM5,755 in 2013, so that the total cost per pilgrim remained at RM9,980. — Bernama
