SIBU: A Twin Otter MH3553 plane belonging to MASwings skidded off the runway at Mukah Airport at 2.02pm yesterday but all on board, two pilots and eight passengers, escaped unhurt.

The plane, on a flight from Miri ke Mukah, veered off onto a grassy area on the left.

The runway was wet and slippery because of rain when the incident happened.

Mukah police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau, who confirmed the matter, said there was no reports of injuries or damage to the aircraft.

“The Mukah branch of Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAB) is still awaiting instructions from MAB Miri on the next course of action,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue assistant director of operations Farhan Sufyan Borhan said the airport’s fire and rescue unit reinforced by members from the Mukah fire station responded immediately to render all needed assistance.

He added that the team was on standby to provide any additional assistance if needed.
