BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Ministry of Health (MoH) through the Renal Service Department has successfully conducted the third Kidney Transplant Programme at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital on August 13. According to the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yussof, the procedure will be continued from time to time, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.com

The Minister of Health made these statement at a media conference on the success of the third such programme in the Sultanate.

In conveying appreciation and thanks, the Minister of Health said local health professionals have proven they were capable of implementing the 3rd Kidney Transplant Programme with the assistance of Professor Mohan Raul, an Australian Specialist Surgeon.

He added that more programmes would be implemented in the future and called on the public not to be afraid or doubtful since the procedure is cost effective and recognised internationally.

The patient who underwent the third kidney transplant procedure in the country was forty-four-year-old Awang Haji Mohammad Haris bin Haji Duraman. He was suffering from kidney failure and had been receiving hemodylisis treatment for three years.

The patient received the kidney from his wife, forty-five-year-old Pengiran Sukmaria binti Pengiran Haji Hashim.

Awang Haji Muhammad Haris thanked the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan, as well as the medical team involved, including the foreign specialist. He advised others not to have doubts because the opportunity comes only once. His wife thanked His Majesty’s government for providing the free treatment and bringing in the foreign specialist.

The surgical procedure was implemented with the cooperation of local health professionals from various disciplines. They consisted of specialists, doctors, nurses and Allied Health Professionals led by Dr. Jackson Tan, Nephrology Specialist, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
