KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has allowed organisers of Bersih 4.0 to use Song Kheng Hai field as their rally venue tomorrow.

This was announced by Kuching South mayor Datuk James Chan after their full council meeting at MBKS chamber here yesterday.

“We initially gave permission that the rally be at MBKS Stadium car park but the Bersih 4.0 appealed to the council to use Padang Song Kheng Hai instead as the approved venue is not safe,” he told reporters at the press conference on the matter yesterday.

“Bersih 4.0 in a letter of appeal to the council said that the MBKS Stadium car park had a lot of hazard and under construction for next Sukma Games,” he added.

However, he disputed that claim, saying he had pictorial evidence that it did not pose any hazard.

“As the council does not want to create disunity to the community, we sought the views of the state government and they have given us the blessing to use an alternative venue – that is Padang Song Kheng Hai,” he said.

Clarifying he had nothing against Bersih 4.0, he said he would send a letter to the organisers as soon as possible to inform them that they can use Song Kheng Hai field on the condition that they have a permit from the police to hold the rally and that they agree not to litter or damage the council’s properties, create public nuisance and to pay a deposit of RM2,000 as guarantee in case of any damage.
