SIBU: Sarawak Volleyball Association (Sava) president Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming expressed confidence that Sarawak will return in flying colours from the National U-20 Volleyball Championship in Shah Alam from Aug 28-31.

“Our target is the two gold medals. If you stay focused and play with a proper mindset and consistency, our chances of lifting both titles are very high,” he said when handing over the state flag to the team at Sarawak Prudential volleyball court on Wednesday afternoon.

Among those present were Sava deputy president Dr Gregory Hii Sui Cheng, chairman Dr William Ting Wei Ung and national volleyball coach Moh Wung Ming.

Lau said going by past results, it was clearly evident that Sarawak can wrest both titles.

“We have been champions in both sections many times in past years and the players should draw inspiration from that,” he added.

He said Sarawak’s strong volleyball presence was largely due to its rigid system of training and leadership.

“So, reciprocate what you have derived from the management and bring glory back to Sarawak,” he added.Hii also reminded the players to that effect.

“Most of you are seasoned players and now is the time to show the other states that Sarawak will remain the traditional power in volleyball.”

Meanwhile, Ting touched on the non-issuance of the Occupation Permit for Sibu Prudential volleyball stadium. “Without the OP, we have no electricity and water. Hopefully, the OP will be resolved soonest to enable Sava to stage activities at the stadium.”
