KAPIT: Work is well underway on Kapit’s very first mural.

Measuring 5 x 2.5 metres, the mural is being painted on the side wall of the corner shop lot in front of the Belaga Wharf.

Sponsored by the Lions Club of Kapit, painting on the RM2,000 project by Chee Seng Hong from the Malaysia Fine Art Gallery, Sibu started on Wednesday and is expected to be unveiled during the National Day celebration.

The mural is based on a drawing initiated by the Dental Department to promote oral health and proper tooth-brushing techniques.

Dental Office Kapit officer in charge Dr Tie Sing Fong said the mural will both educate and attract visitors.

“Based on our findings, we observed that the mouth and teeth healthcare in Kapit Division, which includes Kapit, Song and Belaga districts, is rather poor. In fact when compared to other districts in the state, Kapit has the lowest rates. This is something we ought to address to encourage the people to pay attention to their teeth’s health,” he said when contacted.

“A picture tells a thousand words and through the painting, there are three children brushing their teeth. It’s important to have proper care of the teeth. Brush teeth at least twice a day – in the morning and before bed – and in between the meals rinse the mouth with water.”

He advised the public to visit a dental clinic for a check-up at least once a year.
