KUCHING: The state government will not bar its civil servants from participating in the Bersih 4.0 rally this weekend.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the right to participate in the two-day rally was within the individuals rights, as long as they did not violate any rules and conditions stipulated by the police.

“I leave it to the own individual’s concern. It is up to them to decide for themselves,” he told reporters when met after launching the Chief Minister’s Office National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2015 at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

When asked whether the government would take any action against civil servants arrested during the rally, Adenan mentioned the matter would be decided later on.

“If they are arrested, we will consider what action to take then,” he continued.

He added that Kuching South City Council (MBKS) had consulted with the Chief Minister’s Office on venues for the Bersih rally and that the government had proposed Song Kheng Hai field and the State Stadium.

As the government ha allocated Song Kheng Hai field for the rally, he hoped participants would hold their assembly in a peaceful manner and not cause any problems. He also advised Bersih participants in the Peninsular to follow the example of Sarawakians, which was to hold the rally in a peaceful and friendly way.

“If the people decided to march to Padang Merdeka, they (organisers) would need a permit to hold a parade. This is between the organisers and the police,” he responded to a question on what would happen if participants decided to hold a procession to Padang Merdeka.

Bersih 4.0, which will take place from Saturday 2pm to Sunday 11.50pm, will also be held simultaneously in Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu.
