LONG LAMA: A group of pupils, teachers and parents demonstrated their patriotism and love for the country when they walked about 2km under the hot sun from SK Ubong Imang to Long Lama bazaar.

The school marked National Day yesterday with a ‘Sehati Sejiwa’ (One Heart One Soul) patriotism walk from the primary school to the bazaar and back. Patriotic songs were played to build up their spirit. They were applauded by the public as they walked through Long Lama bazaar.

In line with the theme of Sehati Sejiwa or Unity in Diversity, some of the pupils and teachers dressed up in the traditional attire of various races and ethnic groups in the country. The school organised various activities for the pupils to instil in them the significance of celebrating Merdeka during Patriotism and National Month.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said it was important for the young generation to know the effort and sacrifices made by their forefathers to create peace and harmony that enable the country to develop and progress.

Although they are living in rural areas, they should unite and work together for peace, harmony, development and progress of the country.

After the walk Dennis presented prizes to winners of the most complete traditional attire and other competitions held in conjunction with the special month. Among those present were headmaster Samuel Iwat, Penghulu Desmond Yap, Cr Philip Yap and Long Lama Senior Administrative Officer Michael Louis Balau.
