KOTA KINABALU: Members of the public are once again reminded not to participate in today’s Bersih 4.0 rally at Tanjung Lipat as it is considered illegal, said city police chief ACP M. Chandra.

“Police would like to remind the public that the Bersih 4 Kota Kinabalu (B4KK) that is expected to be held in Tanjung Lipat is against the law.

“Police therefore urge and advise the public not to take part in any illegal rally or gathering as police will not hesitate to enforce the law and take stern action against those who are present,” he said yesterday.

He said action would be taken against the organiser under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 which carries a fine of up to RM10,000, while participants and the organiser who participate in street protest could be slap with a RM10,000 fine under Section 4 (2) (c) of the same act.

Chandra said the rally, if held, would bring negative impact on the peace and public security especially towards visitors to the park.

“We are concerned about the safety of the public at large if the rally goes out of hand due to provocations from either among the participants or from outside group,” he said.
