MARUDI: Two schools here held their own Hari Kebangsaan celebrations yesterday, filled with colours and activities to highlight the historical event. Pupils of SJKC Kee Tee at Long Lama in Central Baram gathered at the open compound next to the school’s classroom block early in the morning.

They later stood up to recite their ‘National Day’ before the headmistress Huang Kui Ing.

The children – dressed in costumes in them with the programme, also conducted a mini pantomime that conveyed the message of patriotism. Meanwhile, students of SMK Telang Usan near here were all enthusiastic in marking the occasion, flying the Jalur Gemilang and Sarawak flags while shouting ‘Merdeka, Merdeka’ at the school’s main hall.

Acting principal Sharifah Azizah Wan Hussin also joined the revelry, before delivering a brief speech to her charges about the importance of commemorating Aug 31.

Later, a group of senior boys took part in a mini-convoy around the school’s compound, with state colours attached to their motorcycles. It was indeed a colourful celebration for both schools.
