KUALA LUMPUR: Preparation for the National Day 2015 celebration in Dataran Merdeka has been affected by the staging of the Bersih 4 rally as the exit routes are obstructed by the protesters.
National Day 2015 Parade and Procession Committee chairman Datuk Seri Othman Mahmood said the final preparations for the celebration had not gone smoothly as planned.
“As of this morning, I and several officials from the Prime Minister’s Department can only accomplished fifty percent.
“Many of the equipment and essential items cannot be brought in to Dataran Merdeka and we only have less than 17 hours to cover the preparation,” he said when met by reporters here today.
Othman urged the organisers of Bersih 4 to cooperate and stop the rally earlier so that preparation for the National Day celebration could proceed.
“I urge all the Bersih 4 protesters to give their cooperation because the National Day celebration is for all Malaysians, we want to celebrate it with patriotism,” he said.
Othman said their mentality did not reflect the solidarity urged in keeping with the theme of National Day celebrations of #SehatiSejiwa (Of One Heart, One Soul).
About 10,000 representatives from government and private agencies, security forces and students will take part in the National Day parade and procession. –Bernama
