SANDAKAN: The Bersih 4.0 rally does not symbolise the spirit of love for the country as the celebration of National Day should not be coloured with the rally said Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah.

“Why do you want to hold Bersih 4.0 on National Day? The objective of Bersih 4.0 which demands for Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to step down is a wrong move.

“We can change our PM, but not through a rally, it should be done through the General Election process. The organising of Bersih 4.0 has been manipulated. Bersih itself was established to demand for fair and clean electoral process.

“However, it now demands for Najib to step down. Furthermore, this rally is held during our National Day celebration in which we, the people should celebrate with the spirit of patriotism,” Raymond said to reporters during a luncheon ceremony at Kenalanmu Seafood, yesterday.

Earlier, the Tanjung Papat assemblyman had attended the 17th anniversary of Sinar Harapan Kindergarten located at Kampung Sim-Sim here.

“I am grateful that Sinar Harapan Kindergarten which was previously operating in one building is now expanded into two buildings to accommodate some 150 pre-schoolers.

“Children who had attended Sinar Harapan Kindergarten when they were young are now successful in their own respective fields,” he said.

Raymond, who is also Industrial Development Minister said early childhood education plays an important role for children as they are our future generations who will be our next leaders.

He added that it is important to instil the patriotism spirit among youngsters especially those in kindergarten in conjunction with the National Day celebration.

“The spirit to love our homeland should be practised since childhood, children must be taught to respect the uniqueness of every culture, this helps us promote racial solidarity and enhance national unity,” Raymond said.

The 17th anniversary celebration of Sinar Harapan Kindergarten was also attended by pre-schoolers, teachers and parents. It was enlivened with various activities including a cake cutting ceremony.
