SIBU: The annual Borneo Post (BP) Run is targeting 3,000 participants next year after having sailed across the 2,500 mark for this year’s run.

See Hua Group chief operating officer Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming, who disclosed this yesterday, also said the run would be made part of BP’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“Actually this year, we targeted 2,000 runners and with the final count at 2,500 it has indeed far surpassed our expectation.

“This is most encouraging and we certainly hope the number will grow from year to year,” Lau told thesundaypost.

“We are very happy with the very good response from the public for this year’s BP Run and we want to make it a run where everyone can participate.

“We also want to make this a very important event for BP.

“In other words, an important event in the calendar of community work organised by BP,” he said.

He was delighted that more and more people were now aware of the BP Run.

“For those who have taken part, I hope they will also help to spread the news on how the run is organised and how interesting it is.

“Right from the beginning it has always been our intention to get as many people as possible to participate in the run,” he added.

Among other things, Lau said through BP Run, they hoped to create awareness on the importance of exercising.

Exercising he said, was essential part towards practising a healthy lifestyle.

Elaborating on other benefits of the run, he said this was an ideal avenue for family outing.

“I think people should grab the opportunity and make it an outing for the family.

“They can also interact with other runners, thus strengthening social cohesion,” he noted.

Towards this end, he said the registration fee was minimal and early birds received free T-shirts.

“I hope Sibu folk will value and cherish this kind of event organised for the benefit of the people.

“If people respond well to it, we will definitely try to make it better,” Lau said.
