KUCHING: A negative image of the state will deter potential investors, said Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

“Do not create the image that that our state or country is not peaceful and unsafe. When potential investors see the negative news in the television and social media, they will be deterred.

“We want to attract more visitors and investors which are important for our economy, investment and tourism. We must show that we are a united and peaceful country,” she said when asked to comment on the Bersih 4 rally yesterday.

Fatimah said the rally is allowed as long as it is peaceful and true to its purpose.

“The chief minister himself allowed it as long as it is done the Sarawak way. Peaceful rallies are allowed in our laws as long as there is compliance.

“The Bersih 4 organiser had asked for permission and agreed to hold it at the designated venue. We hope they will strictly follow regulations and conditions and will not cause untoward incidents and inconvenience to the public,” she said.
