LIMBANG: The town has been bursting with activity for the past two days as it gears up for the state level National Day celebrations centred here tomorrow (Aug 31).

The Jalur Gemilang and the state flag adorn every corner and the crowd is getting bigger as people from all over, including Brunei, begin arriving for the festivities.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Toh Puan Dato Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and his wife Datin Patinggi Dato Jamilah Anu, state cabinet ministers, heads of government departments, state assemblymen and others are scheduled to visit.

They will attend the thanksgiving ceremony at Masjid Bahagian this evening.

Tomorrow, the Merdeka Rally event will start as early as 8am.

Minister in charge of the celebrations Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan will then deliver his welcoming remarks.

After that, the chief minister will present his speech followed by a symbolic presentation and the hoisting of the Jalur Gemilang accompanied by the national anthem.

Meanwhile, other interesting activities which have already started here are the two-day power boat race, the Limbang Regatta and a public concert.

This evening, another concert will be held featuring a top Malaysian singer Ziana Zain at Dataran Jubli Emas.
