LIMBANG: The National Day celebration in Limbang tomorrow will be a riot of colours.
Giving the thumbs-up to the final rehearsal for the parade and Merdeka extravaganza at Limbang Sports Complex was minister-in-charge of the state-level celebration, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
“The field performance is not bad, but turn it on and make Limbang proud on National Day,” he bellowed to the enthusiastic crowd at the end of the rehearsal.
He and deputy state secretary Dato Misnu Taha checked the last minute adjustments and fine-tuning during the full dress rehearsal in preparation for the big day this Monday to be graced by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Misnu called on all those there to put their best foot forward on National Day to show the world that solidarity, unity and success in Limbang reflect the best of Sarawak.
Traditionally, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem will give his address at the National Day parade in the presence of all dignitaries which will include consulate representatives, state cabinet members and other dignitaries.
The function in Limbang will start at 8am after the arrival of Head of State, followed by the raising of the Jalur Gemilang.
The anding-anding dance, choir, march-past by 67 colourful contingents, Armed Forces demonstrating unarmed combat and the Merdeka roar by the participants reverberating around the hills will go down as a historical occasion for Limbang.
Awang Tengah said it is an honour for Limbang to be chosen the venue for the state-level celebration and called on the participants to put on a stirring show.
The organising committee will present prizes to the best teams for the uniformed bodies, government departments and agencies, and schools at the parade.
Judges from the Armed Forces and police will be keeping the scores for the final results.
The well choreographed moves and traditional costumes of the ethnic groups would be a sight to behold on that day for locals and visitors.
Enthusiasm and patriotism alive and kicking.
