LIMBANG: The falling ringgit against US, Singapore and Brunei currencies has not affected the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as its products still enjoy high demand in Brunei.

Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan advised SME players to improve their product packaging and branding to further boost their international appeal.

“Now is the best time for SMEs to promote their product as they are now cheaper for Bruneian customers,” said Awang Tengah at the launching of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Showcase at Padang Sentral in Jalan Wayang here yesterday.

Present were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities Datuk Slyvester Entri Muran, Deputy State Secretary Datu Misnu Taha, Limbang MP Hasbi Habibollah, Bukit Kota assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang and Limbang Resident Maria Hasman.

Awang Tengah also advised SMEs entrepreneur to keep pace with the ever changing business environment.

“Entrepreneurs must be innovative and creative so that they can offer the best goods and services to their customers.”

He said the agriculture, retailing, construction, supply, services, and tourism sectors were some of the lucrative areas that should be explored.

Some 130 entrepreneurs are taking part in the showcase, which is held in conjunction with the state-level National Day celebration.
