KAPIT: The Holy Mary Immaculate Conception Church here held two events back to back in celebration of National Day and to instil patriotism among the people.
The church conducted a special ‘Merdeka Mass’ on Monday morning that was attended by hundreds and a ‘Merdeka Convoy’ after the mass.
The ‘Merdeka Convoy’ saw young and old alike astride motorbikes, four-wheel-drive vehicles and passenger vans travelling along Jalan Airport, Jalan Padang Sukan, Jalan Penghulu Nyanggau and then back to town, waving the Jalur Gemilang and cheering.
To ensure the event went smoothly, police escorted the convoy to ensure no untoward incidents took place.
The event ended an hour later when the participants returned to the church compound to disperse after making their rounds of the town.
