KUCHING: The e-commerce market landscape in Malaysia has evolved over the last five years with a more matured infrastructure such as payment systems and Internet penetration today to support its continued growth.

However, the Malaysian e-commerce market is still very much in its infancy stage considering its potentials and will continue to grow, says 11street chief executive officer Hoseok Kim.

“To explain further, the Malaysian e-commerce market accounts for just two per cent of total retail market which is considerably low comparing to many other advanced e-commerce markets such as Korea with approximately 15 per cent of ecommerce penetration rate,” Kim told The Borneo Post in an email interview recently.

“Therefore, logically speaking, Malaysian e-commerce market will grow by more than 700 per cent in the next five to 10 years. “I would like to say that to facilitate this growth, it is very important for e-commerce service providers to offer training and development programs to support local sellers in starting online business.”

In order to accelerate the growth of ecommerce industry, Kim said 11street has a training facility known as ‘Seller Zone’ dedicated to support seller ecosystem’s development.

“For buyers, 11street is committed to provide a trusted and convenient platform, together with a well-curated mobile application to support them in online shopping effortlessly and efficiently at anytime, anywhere.

“It is important to nurture the online sellers’ population growth in Malaysia in order to accelerate the growth of the e-commerce industry.

Therefore, it is very important for e-commerce service providers like 11street to help SMBs shift their business online by providing necessary support through education and online tools.”

This is one of the reasons why 11street has a complete merchandising ecosystem, education and training programs that can fully support sellers.

“Coupled with the knowledge and know-how gained from our global e-commerce business, 11street makes e-commerce adoption much easier for local businesses.

“Also, as part of our commitment to foster the Malaysian e-commerce market growth, 11street has developed a facility in Malaysia known as the Seller Zone, which is the first and largest education centre and supporting facility where we can transfer all of our knowledge and know-how to the local sellers.

“Built with two photo studios and two training centres that can accommodate up to 100 people with 10,000 square feet of floor area, we educate, train and upskill local sellers to start and manage their online businesses at our Seller Zone.

“Facilities and training are open for free to all sellers, which is also our way of encouraging more sellers to join our e-commerce platform. There is no store fee for anyone that is keen to sell on 11street.”
