SIBU: A man who is believed to have been assaulted by two men was found dead in a drain in Tekam Road here yesterday morning.

Police have identified the victim as Edmund Antas Singka, 20, a car wash shop worker from Kampung Lubok Lasas, Limbang.

Sibu CID chief DSP Yeoh Chun Shyan and senior investigating officer ASP Suhaimi Mohamad led a team, including personnel from the K9 Unit, to the scene after being alerted of the gruesome find by a resident.

As the water level in the drain was high, a truck from Sibu Municipal Council had to be called in to pump the drain water out.

Police found a wallet containing some cash and a passport-sized photo, believed to be that of Edmund, from the remains, which have been sent to Sibu Hospital for a post-mortem.

It is understood that there were injuries on his head and neck.

On Sunday, a resident said she was startled from her sleep by a commotion outside her house at Lane 6, Tekam Road, at about 5am.

Initially, she thought it was over a fishing matter as the area was a common spot for such an activity.

She, however, suspected something was amiss when she saw, from her window, two men bolting from the drain.

The woman and her husband then went out to check but did not find anything unusual at the drain.

At about 7am, the woman and her 17-year-old son went to check on the drain again, and were startled to find a hand sticking out from the water in the drain.

The son then alerted the police.
