KUCHING: A total of 57 students and three teachers were rescued after they were stranded at Level 13 of Mt Santubong when hiking up, on Sunday night.

All the students of a secondary school in Petra Jaya were brought down by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel around 6pm while the teachers reached the starting location at nearly midnight.

According to sources, of the three teachers, one of whom was male, accompanying the students, one of the women had fainted and this had halted their journey down the mountain before calling for help as darkness fell.

Bomba was informed on the incident around 3pm and it took them two hours to reach the location. Also assisting in the rescue operation was Civil Defence Department personnel.

The 30-year-old teacher was rushed to hospital for a check-up after reaching the foot of the mountain.
