KUCHING: A mother of one was killed after the motorcycle she rode with her husband collided with a car near Kampung Benuk along Jalan Puncak Borneo here on the eve of National Day.

In the Sunday incident that occurred around 7pm, the deceased, identified as Hilda Giman, 22, was riding pillion and succumbed to injuries sustained at the scene.

According to sources, her husband who broke his legs was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital.

The couple was heading back to Kampung Bra’ang Payang prior to the accident.

Upon reaching the junction near Kampung Benuk, a car was said to be making an exit and the rider could not avoid the oncoming vehicle.

According to a relative of the deceased, her brother was also fatally hurt in a recent road accident and they were the only two siblings.

Police are investigating the case.

In another case, three siblings were rushed to hospital after being scalded by hot cooking oil past midnight on Sunday at a flat in Matang.

The victims aged 21, 17 and 14 were sent in ambulance summoned to the scene after receiving a distress call.

Apparently, one of the two younger siblings wanted to fry eggs but ended up with the pan erupting in flames after pouring too much oil into it.

The eldest one tried to save the situation when he was also splashed by hot oil from the burning pan.

Their mother was said to be in her room when she heard screams from the kitchen.
