Children join in National Day celebration in Keningau and Sook.

KENINGAU: Various activities were organized in Keningau and Sook National Day celebration, and they included 10,000-step walk, a parade, aerobic exercise, sports and health screening.

The aerobics event started at 8am, followed by the walking of 10,000 steps which was participated by the villagers as one of the activities for healthcare and for a healthy lifestyle.

About 800 people, including children, participated in the celebration which was officiated by Liawan community development leader Sahanip Jamil who represented Assistant Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Haji Sairin Karno.

The event began with a march past by contingents comprising of four blocks, namely Amanah in white shirts, Bestari (blue), Ceria (yellow) and Dynamic in red shirts.

They marched round the Kampung Tudan Baru football field carrying the national and Sabah flags as a sign of gratitude and loyalty to Malaysia and Sabah.

The national and state anthems were sung by all present at the event.

Sahanip in his speech asked the village community to remain united and to appreciate the meaning of independence.

“Since the country’s independence, the people in the rural areas have enjoyed a lot of development.

“This village was once backward and poor. It is now forging rapid development, especially in infrastructure development, economy and education,” he said.

Sahanip expressed hope that the villagers here would remain united, work together and enhance existing unity for peace and harmony.

In conjunction with the celebration, a parade competition was also held.

It was won by the Dynamic contingent, followed by Amanah and Bestari in second and third places respectively. All the prices were presented by Sahanip.

Health screenings were also held at a multi-purpose hall and were well received by the villagers.
