SIBU: Sibu divisional player Teng Chang Hong captured the boy’s title in the Sibu Open Table Tennis Championship which ended here on Monday.

He edged Gabriel Ling from Samarahan 3-2 in the final.

In the girl’s final, Miri’s Hu Wei Jia of Miri beat Sibu’s Crystal Tiong 4-1.

In his closing remarks, Sibu Ping Pong Association (SPPA) president Temenggong Vincent Lau Lee Ming expressed satisfaction with the increasing number of entries which included local, state and former national players.

He praised SPPA for staging numerous competitions of which the Sibu Open was the only event open to players outside Sibu.

Earlier, SPPA chairman Dr Clement Chen disclosed that they would be writing to the State Sports Council for a Chinese coach.

“Kuching and Miri currently had a Chinese coach to beef up their squad. We also have many outstanding players and we definitely deserve a Chinese coach too,” he said.
