Lincoln University to award ten global challenges scholarships next year

SINGAPORE: For the first time, New Zealand’s Lincoln University will be awarding 10 Global Challenges Scholarships to international undergraduates next year.

SchoolsLinc and Global Challenges Programme Manager Fiona Scott said ten scholarships at NZ$6,000 each would be offered to selected international students for 2016 who want to be part of the generation that would make a difference.

She said the programme was opened to international students to encourage more perspectives and ideas around differing issues and further their own knowledge and awareness of other opinions and backgrounds.

As part of the scholarship, undergraduates will also become student ambassadors for the Global Challenges programme and will be required to work with the community.

“Students on the Global Challenges Scholarship will have access to a programme encouraging them not only to develop their own interest in issues such as access to water, food security and deforestation, but to encourage others to
participate as well.

“They will assist the SchoolsLinc team to work with schools and teachers in developing resources and opportunities to investigate and collaborate on these issues, and also have access to speakers and workshops on different local and
global concerns,” said Scott in a statement here today.

Applications for the Global Challenges Scholarship close in October 2015. More information on the scholarship and requirements for international students can be obtained at www.lincoln.ac.nz/globalchallenges.-Bernama
