Exhibition on TYT’s life to be held in Sibu

SIBU: An exhibition featuring the life story of the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will be held from Sept 13 to 18 at the Islamic Complex hall here from 9am to 9pm.

The exhibition, the first of its kind, is staged in conjunction with the 79th birthday of His Excellency.

This was disclosed by minister in charge of the celebration Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who is also Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development.

“We hope the people will participate in this joyous celebration, particularly the parade on Sept 12 and the exhibition.

“Secondary school students and the public are encouraged to visit the exhibition,” he told a press conference after chairing a meeting of the celebration at Sibu Resident’s Office yesterday.

Wong said Sibu was deeply honoured to host the event which would not only be for Sibu people but for people throughout the state.

The celebration will start on Sept 11 with a thanksgiving ceremony at Annur Mosque here.

A community concert featuring popular singers will be held on the same day from 8 to 11pm at the Sibu Town Square, followed by a fireworks display.

A parade to be participated by 79 contingents signifying the age of the TYT will be held on Sept 12 from 8 to 10.30am at the Town Square.

This will be followed by an investiture ceremony at 11.30am and a state banquet in the evening.

On Sept 13, a high tea will be held at the hall of Sibu Islamic Complex.

Also scheduled for Sept 13 is the Sarawak Foundation Gold Cup challenge football competition.

Deputy State Secretary Datu Misnu Taha and Sibu Resident Sim Kok Kee, who are joint co-organising chairmen, and Ninth Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier-General Abdul Rahim Sebeli were present at the press conference.
