MELBOURNE: The findings of an investigation into the death of an eight-year-old Malaysian girl at last year’s Royal Adelaide Show have been handed to the Department of Public Prosecutions, according to the Australian Broadcasting Commission.

Adelene Leong, who was visiting Adelaide from Malaysia, was flung from the Airmaxx 360 ride and died later in hospital from her injuries.

SafeWork South Australia executive director, Marie Boland said she could not reveal any of the investigation’s findings.

“We’ve given our brief of evidence to, and it’s now with the DPP, and he will access it to see whether the evidence reach the threshold for any prosecution and so basically, the decision is now in his hands,” Boland was reported as saying.

She said the authority’s role was to investigate and it did not make recommendations about possible charges.

Engineers and inspectors have audited every ride at this year’s show.

The safety watchdog announced in July that it would have twice as many inspectors at this year’s show, which starts tomorrow. – BERNAMA
