SANDAKAN: The RM16.2 million Sandakan Integrated Bus Terminal Project is expected to provide a more comfortable facility to the people when it is completed next year.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Aman said the project is now 40 percent completed.

“This project, covering an area of 10.4 acres, will provide better facility for the people,”he told reporters after visiting the construction site at Mile 2.5 Jalan Lintas Utara here yesterday.

Musa, who is also the Finance Minister, added that the project would provide facility to the people in the State, especially those from outside Sandakan.

“People who will be utilizing the terminal are those from Tawau, Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu and other districts. They will enjoy better and more comfortable facility once the terminal is completed,” he added.

Musa advised the contractors to complete the project in accordance with the standard set by the government.

“It is important that the contractors complete the project within the time duration set so that the facility could be utilized by the people without further delay,”he stressed.

The bus terminal will cater to express buses to and from Sandakan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Lahad Datu which are the main transportation mode linking the main towns in the east coast to Kota Kinabalu and Ranau.

Currently, the bus terminal in Sandakan is being operated temporarily at Bandar Letat, Mile 3 here.

Also present during the Chief Minister’s inspection visit were Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Zakaria Edris, Elopura assemblyman Datuk Au Kam Wah, Special Affairs Department director Abdul Manap Lakaribal, Sandakan Municipal Council president Datuk James Wong, and his deputy, Mohd Hamsan Awang Supain, Elopura community development leader Chan Tzun Jei, Umno Libaran Youth chief Rizan Aziz, and Sandakan Umno Youth chief Fakarudin Tan Sri Ampong.
