KOTA KINABALU: Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) commissioner Nordin Kasim Madating said he found nothing wrong with the holding of rallies such as the recent Bersih 4.0.

“As long as there is no disturbance, then under the Peaceful Assembly Act there is nothing wrong … if they do it again next time, they can do it,” he said to reporters at the rountable discussion on promoting business and human rights in Malaysia held at Promenade Hotel near here yesterday.

Nordin also said that he also did not find any infringement of human rights during the recent Bersih 4.0 at the Likas Bay.

According to Nordin, Suhakam was satisfied with what it observed during the gathering.

“The police gave their cooperation and people were allowed the freedom for peaceful assembly,” he said.

Nordin added that the report on the event had already been submitted to the Suhakam headquarters.

“There were threats of arrests prior to the event, but (we were glad) during the actual event there was cooperation and no provocation took place. Everything went on peacefully,” he said.

The only issue was probably the road blocks that hindered people who didn’t have anything to do with the Bersih 4.0 from getting to their destination, he said.

“But it wasn’t that serious,” he added.
