KOTA KINABALU: Bersih Sabah organisers yesterday stressed that the organising of the just concluded rally in the city was completely apolitical.

Clarifying Kota Kinabalu DAP member of parliament Jimmy Wong’s statement on Tuesday, Bersih Sabah chairperson Jannie Lasimbang rectified that two of those whom Wong named as DAP members summoned by police for questioning were part of the Bersih rally and not in their capacity as political members.

“To me, these two are from NGOs and not in their capacitites as DAP members,” said Jannie, referring to Adrian Lasimbang and Andrew Ambrose Mudi or better known as Atama.

“The government may be trying to connect Bersih 4 Kota Kinabalu as controlled by opposition, which is completely untrue,” said Jannie.

Wong, who was summoned by police on Tuesday to give his statement regarding his involvement in the rally, had said that two more DAP members namely Adrian and Andrew, had also been called by police and will give their statements soon.

To date, 10 people, including organising members, volunteers and DAP members had come forward to give their statements regarding their involvement in the two-day nationwide State rally last weekend.

They included Jannie herself, organising committee members Mathew Yong and S.M.Muthu, DAP State deputy chairman cum Sandakan member of parliament Stephen Wong and Kota Kinabalu Dapsy chief Henry Shim, Bersih Sabah chief marshal Haryadie Karmin, volunteers Mohd Asraf Sharafi and Mohd Khairuddin Daud as well as Wong.

“Bersih Sabah has cooperated with the police and given our statements. Our legal teams have given their commitment to assist us.

“Bersih Sabah is compiling reports to assist in our evaluation of Bersih 4 Kota Kinabalu,” stated Jannie.

She also called on members of the public who participated in the rally to continue sending comments and share photographs in their Facebook page, Bersih Sabah.

“In particular, we request members of the public to report inconveniences and impact caused by the police roadblocks on August 30.”

Bersih Sabah, added Jannie, is also discussing on how to push the five demands and keep the momentum towards institutional reforms.
