KUCHING: A teenager from Muara Tuang broke her leg while her younger sister escaped unhurt after the sight of a snake slithering across the road caused the former to lose control of her motorcycle.

The incident took place around 6pm on Wednesday when the 17-year-old girl from Kampung Rembus was asked by her father to go to a nearby shop to purchase fertiliser.

She then set off together with her younger sister and was nearing the main road when she spotted a snake slithering across the road in front of her and panicked.

The teen then lost control of the motorcycle and ended up crashing on the road, leaving her with a broken leg and only minor scratches for her sister.

Separately, an octogenarian suffered minor injuries after falling from his bicycle along Mile 4 1/2 Kuching-Serian Road yesterday.

The victim was cycling along the busy road around noon when he appeared to lose control and fell on the road.

Several motorists quickly stopped to assist the senior citizen by carrying him to the roadside and calling for an ambulance.

He was then taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment and observation.

In an unrelated accident, a construction worker suffered head injuries after crashing into the rear of a car in Kota Samarahan yesterday morning.

The 34-year-old from Simunjan was riding to his workplace in Petra Jaya around 7.30am when he hit the rear corner of a car in front of him and was thrown onto the road.

An ambulance was summoned to the scene to send the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted for further treatment.
