LAHAD DATU: The body of a woman was found floating in the river at Kampung Sri Putatan Baru, on Thursday evening.

District Police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad when contacted yesterday confirmed the incident and said a member of the public spotted the body around 2pm before alerting the police.

Hamzah said when the body was found, it was clad in blue jeans and red color T-shirt.

The body was retrieved by Fire and Rescue Department personnel and took it to the district hospital for a post mortem.

“For the time being, we can ascertain the body as we are yet to receive any missing person’s report in the past few days. Investigation is still ongoing and we are still waiting for the post mortem result,” he said.

Hamzah also urged the public who might have a missing female family member, friend or relative in the past few days to come forward to identify the body.

Meanwhile, Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Apandi Mahmood said his department was alerted about 2.25pm and sent eleven firefighters with a fire engine to the scene.

Apandi said that the firefighters manaed to out the victim from the scene about half an hour later and handed it to the police for further investigation.
