KUALA LUMPUR: The police have rubbished a documentary on the death of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006, which was aired by the Al-Jazeera media agency recently.

They said the report was based on mere allegations.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar slammed the documentary as an attempt to introduce new evidence in the case when it had already been tried in court.

He said the police were conducting an investigation on the matter under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code on statements which could cause public mischief.

He said the police believed certain parties had fed false information to the journalist producing the documentary.

“You (Al-Jazeera) made the report on ‘hearsay’, trying to cook up something from nothing, (and) listening to people which is not true.

“We completed the investigation and the case went to court, it had been decided … what are you trying to do?” he asked when replying to a question from a journalist of the agency at a media conference after the International Maritime Bureau Meeting here.

Khalid said the police were also monitoring those who had provided information to the journalist concerned, and would be taking action against them.

Earlier, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Salleh Said Keruak said the Al-Jazeera documentary was solely based on hearsay and not on real evidence. — Bernama
