MIRI: Team Kolej A from Kolej Tun Datu Tuanku Haji Bujang (KTDTHB) emerged boys’ and girls’ champions of the Malaysia Day Interschool Hockey Tournament on Wednesday.
SMK Chung Hua came second in the boys’ group and SMK Sebauh third while on the girls’ pitch, SMK St Columba finished second and SMK Riam, third. SMK Datuk Permaisuri won the losers’ pool.
The 24-team tournament saw Macmarshall Mark Seling (SMK Sebauh) winning the best male player title and Charlena Lawing (KTDTHB) as best female player.
The Malaysia Day tournament was organised by Warrior HC of Miri and KTDTHB Hockey Club. assistant director of Miri Division Sports Council, Gloria James, gave away prizes of trophy, medals and certificates.
Miri hockey coach Rudy Naziri said, “The schools were very supportive of their teams. Even KTDHB’s principal was there to cheer their team. I believe this boosted their spirit to emerged both boys and girls winners.”
He said the tournamentit was to scout for new hockey talentsto represent the division, as well as the state.
