KUCHING: The state Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth, together with its federal and Sabah counterparts, will embark on a ‘BN Youth For Community’ programme and has chosen Long Busang in Belaga as its destination.

State BN Youth chief Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said 73 BN Youth members would be involved in the programme, to run from Sept 24 to 26.

He said it was the first programme participated by BN Youth from Peninsular Malaysia to understand the hardships faced by people living in remote parts of the state.

“For this programme, we are bringing our members to visit very remote parts of the state to enable them to understand the hardship faced by the people living there.

“By doing this, they would be able to formulate and implement policies to address the problems,” Fadillah told a press conference at PBB headquarters near Jalan Bako here yesterday.

He explained that it was vital for BN Youth members as future leaders of the country to understand such problems, adding that the group would travel by boats and on land. Fadillah said the programme in Long Busang would include the construction of a clinic and repairing a school there, recreational activities as well as a dialogue between Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and the locals.

Khairy, who is national BN Youth chief, is also expected to launch the programme on Sept 26.

Fadillah also said the state BN Youth would continue carrying out various programmes in the rural, suburban and urban areas.

Commenting on the Red Shirt rally, Fadillah – also Petra Jaya MP – pointed out that it was not applicable in the state.

“Here in Sarawak, we stand by the principle to struggle for all races and religions, as being advocated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.”

He stressed that the strength of the state remained on the unity, peace and harmony among its people. The press conference was also attended by Assistant Minister of Culture and Heritage Liwan Lagang, who is also PRS Youth chief.
