Karen leads Girls’ U13 charge in Hopes clash

KUCHING: Up-and-coming junior paddler Karen Lyne Dick will lead Sarawak’s challenge in the Girls’ Under-13 category of the 28th Milo Malaysia Hopes Table Tennis Championship in Kuching from Nov 25-28.

The 13-year-old first former of SMK Methodist in Sibu was just too good for her opponents in the selection tournament held at SJK Chung Hua No. 3 school hall last month.

Karen registered 11 wins to collect 22 points and top the Girls’ U13 competition while Tay Lynn Jia of Kuching had 10 wins, one loss and 21 points to finish second, followed by Phoebe Ting Wei Jia also of Kuching, who had eight wins and three defeats for 19 points.

The fourth to 10th positions were occupied by Fion Soh Jia Xi, Faustina Su Kwong Ai (Sibu), Chang Choy Xuan and Chee Yu Xuan (Miri), Tan Chung Jia (Kuching), Su Siew Ling (Sarikei) and Joan Ho Zhi En (Samarahan).

In the Boys’ U13 contest, Too Ying Chuen of Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 Kuching finished as the best paddler with 10 wins and one defeat to collect 21 points.

His teammate Christopher Goh Kho Hian Hui finished in second spot with nine wins and two losses for 20 points while in third spot was Tang Shi Han from Miri with 20 points from nine wins and two losses.

Those finishing in fourth to 10th positions were Joel Chen Yu Chen and Alan Teo Jie (Serian), Lee Chen Hong (Samarahan), Lee Yee Jat and Wilson Kiu Teck Chien (Miri), Louis Chung Kian Fu and Boon Jia Xian (Kuching).

Meanwhile, the selected players for the Boys’ U10 are Brandon Tan Tze Yuan (Samarahan), Huang Kee Sheng (Miri), Alfred Ting Wei Hong (Kuching), Tan Ern Quan (Miri), Chong Kai Jit (Samarahan), Vincent Tan Cheng Liang (Miri), Hary Lau Lee Hong and Boon Jia Quan (Samarahan), Bryan Ngu Zhu Kiet (Sibu) and Kueh Jiin Jiang (Kuching).

The Girls’ U10 team will consist of Sia Hsiao Ling (Sibu), Too Ying Xin (Kuching), Candy Tan Poh Tze (Samarahan), Liong Jia En (Sibu), Joanne Yong Yah Sing (Miri), Angeline Tian Xuan (Samarahan), Joanne Chen Yu Xi (Kuching), Patricia Bong Yee Hui (Serian), Eileen Lau Pei Weng (Sarikei) and Then Pei Joo (Serian).
