Kok named EY Young Tax Professional 2015

KUCHING: Student Kok Ser Lin of Sunway-TES was announced the winner of the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year 2015 Malaysia.

Kok, 19, who is pursuing her ACCA professional qualification in Sunway-TES, will go on to represent Malaysia at the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year international final to be held from Nov 30 to Dec 4, 2015 in Amsterdam.

There, she will compete against winners from over 30 countries for the title of ‘EY Young Tax Professional of the Year 2015’.

“The EY Young Tax Professional of the Year competition serves as a good platform to encourage our Malaysian undergraduates to explore the tax profession and industry and stretch their talents and skills further and beyond through global exposure.

“The strategic need to build quality and high caliber Tax professionals in the country is greater than ever, given the globalized nature of business today. Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri is pleased to lend our support to this valuable and important programme for the third consecutive year this year,” said Asriah Shaari, director of corporate affairs, Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri, in officiating the event.

Meanwhile, Yeo Eng Ping, EY Malaysia and Asean Tax leader shared that the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year Award is an innovative programme initiated by EY to recognise talent amongst the next generation of tax leaders at an early stage and encourage them to pursue the unique opportunities the profession offers them.

“The competition aims to also demonstrate to leaders of business, the profession and tax administrations globally that investment in future tax talent is essential.

“The experience that the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year offers is an exceptional one that includes round-the-world business trips and handsome cash prizes as well as internship opportunities.

“The winners will have the opportunity to learn, share, connect and collaborate with their international counterparts from diverse backgrounds.

“They will also have access to invaluable global leadership training, technical coaching and the opportunity to make long-lasting connections with leading figures from global organizations.”

Farah Rosley, Partner and Programme director of the EY Young Tax Professional of the Year Malaysia, said at the international level, the participants will be challenged with case studies and interviews before expert judges, who will be looking for evidence of creative and analytical strengths, as well as practical skills.

“The judges were impressed by the standard of the essay submissions and oral presentations of the case study by the finalists this year. We have no doubt that Ser Lin will do Malaysia proud at the international competition.”
