KUALA LUMPUR: Action must be taken against anyone including Umno Youth members if they were found to have flouted laws during the ‘Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu’ (Red Shirts) rally in the city on Sept  16, said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister,  said Umno Youth members had never been disallowed from joining rallies or other activities all this while as long as no laws were broken.

“What is important is that if there is proof that any Umno Youth member has broken the law, then action has to be taken against them,” he told reporters after launching the National Sports Day Sale at Mid Valley Megamall here yesterday.

On Wednesday (Sept 16), thousands joined the ‘Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu’ rally organised by the Malaysian Silat Federation (Pesaka) to show their displeasure over the Bersih 4 rally that was also held in the city on Aug 29 and 30.

They were unhappy that some Bersih 4 rally participants had stomped on  pictures of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The rally was also to object against anti-government propaganda spread on the Internet besides calling for peace and harmony to prevail in the country.

On the disturbance at Petaling Street during the rally, Khairy it should be left to the police to investigate the matter.

Some of the Red Shirts had tried to storm a police barricade there which forced the use of water cannons to disperse them. — Bernama
