Greek leftist leader Alexis Tsipras has won the general election, picking up between 33 and 35 percent of the vote, the latest estimates showed Sunday.

The updated figures on behalf of the country’s main five TV stations gave conservative New Democracy between 28.5 and 30 percent of the vote, securing victory for Tsipras but without an absolute majority.

Official results — with 15 percent of the vote counted — confirmed the trend, with Syriza earning 35.12 percent over New Democracy’s 28.41 percent.

The nationwide results also showed neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn in clear control of third place with 7.35 percent. -AFP
